ANDYSMANCLUB runs talking groups for all men (18-plus). These groups meet weekly and are free to join. There is no need to book; just turn up on the night – you will be given a warm welcome.
Andy’s Man Club is named after Andrew Roberts, who sadly took his own life in 2016 aged 23. It started with just nine men meeting in Halifax three months after Andy’s death. AMC has grown to well over 150 clubs spread around the country, with new clubs opening regularly.
Andy’s Man Club provides a place where men can meet over a brew and chat about pretty much anything, knowing they will be heard and respected. It’s a great place to meet new people and make new friends.
We are fortunate enough to have two groups in Liverpool and one in Southport. Check the AMC website to find your nearest group. All the groups meet at 7 p.m. every Monday (excluding bank holidays).
A Personal Experience
I joined the Liverpool group around the middle of 2022, not really knowing what to expect. One Monday afternoon, I came across the group on the internet and decided to give it a go. While I felt nervous travelling to the group, the warm welcome I got as I approached helped me feel at ease. One of the facilitators made me a coffee and offered biscuits. Several of the lads were chatting, and they welcomed me too.
There were around fifteen men in the group I joined, aged 18-80 (or thereabouts), from all walks of life. Despite my apprehension, I jumped in and introduced myself when it was my turn, although I felt no pressure to do so.
Andy’s Man Club has become an essential part of my week and my well-being. I have made new friends, joining in social activities, walks and other events that have grown out of the group.
If you’re a man aged 18-plus and free on a Monday night, why not give Andy’s Man Club a go? You have nothing to lose and might have a lot to gain.
About Andy’s Man Club
What does ANDYSMANCLUB do?
ANDYSMANCLUB looks to provide a safe, confidential place where men can talk about whatever is on their minds. They want to eliminate the stigma associated with mental health and get men talking. You don’t have to have a mental health condition or be suicidal to join AMC. Andy’s Man Club is open to all men (18-plus).
When does ANDYSMANCLUB meet?
Meetings run every Monday night (bank holidays excluded), starting at 7 p.m. and finishing by 9 p.m. All groups meet at the same time and follow the same format.
How much does it cost?
All AMC groups are free to attend, including complimentary refreshments. There is no collection or anything like that, and no one will ever be asked to pay to attend Andy’s Man Club.
What happens in a meeting?
You will be welcomed with a brew and a biscuit, then gather in one or more groups (depending on numbers). Each group is run by volunteer facilitators who will introduce themselves at the outset.
Everyone is then invited to introduce themselves. However, no one is required to say anything. A ball is used to manage who’s speaking. If you don’t want to say anything, pass the ball on. No one will judge you.
The first question asks for a positive from your week, followed by anything you want to get off your chest. Again, no one is required to speak. You are welcome to take as much or as little time as you need.
After another brew & more biscuits, there are two more light-hearted questions before everyone heads off.
How long is an ANDYSMANCLUB session?
AMC meetings last around 2 hours. They all start at 7 pm, although someone will be there from about 6:45, giving time to get a brew before the meeting begins.
Is it confidential?
Andy’s Man Club aims to offer safe, confidential space, and all participants are requested to respect that confidentiality. What happens in the room stays in the room.
What can I talk about in ANDYSMANCLUB?
You can talk about pretty much anything that’s on your mind. However, there are four things we don’t discuss. These are religion, politics, medication, and specific criminal activity. These restrictions apply to all AMC groups and are there for everyone’s protection and wellbeing.
Do I have to register for ANDYSMANCLUB?
No, there is no registration, and you don’t have to give your name if you don’t want to. No attendance registers are kept, just a count of the numbers attending.
Where is my nearest ANDYSMANCLUB?
There are two Liverpool clubs and one in Southport (as of August 2024). Each club runs 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. every Monday (excluding bank holidays). You are welcome to join any of the clubs, or switch between them, whatever suits you best. Check the AMC online directory to find the location of your nearest group as venues can change at short notice.
