Bassett)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[et_pb_section fb_built=&#8221;1&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.4.8&#8243; background_color=&#8221;rgba(0,0,0,0)&#8221;][et_pb_row _builder_version=&#8221;4.4.8&#8243;][et_pb_column type=&#8221;4_4&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.4.8&#8243;][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.4.8&#8243; hover_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p>When Angela was very young,<br \/>Age two or three or so,<br \/>Her mother and her father<br \/>Taught her never to say NO.<br \/>They taught her that she must agree<br \/>With everything they said,<br \/>And if she didn\u2019t, she was spanked<br \/>And sent upstairs to bed.<\/p>\n<p>So Angela grew up to be<br \/>A most agreeable child;<br \/>She was never angry<br \/>And she was never wild;<br \/>She always shared, she always cared,<br \/>She never picked a fight,<br \/>And no matter what her parents said,<br \/>She thought that they were right.<\/p>\n<p>Angela the Angel did very well in school<br \/>And, as you might imagine, she followed every rule;<br \/>Her teachers said she was so well-bred,<br \/>So quiet and so good,<br \/>But how Angela felt inside<br \/>They never understood.<\/p>\n<p>Angela had lots of friends<br \/>Who liked her for her smile;<br \/>They knew she was the kind of gal<br \/>Who\u2019d go the extra mile;<br \/>And even when she had a cold<br \/>And really needed rest,<br \/>When someone asked her if she\u2019d help<br \/>She always answered, \u201cYes\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>When Angela was thirty-three, she was a lawyer\u2019s wife.<br \/>She had a home and family, and a nice suburban life.<br \/>She had a little girl of four<br \/>And a little boy of nine,<br \/>And if someone asked her how she felt<br \/>She always answered, \u201cFine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But one cold night near Christmas time<br \/>When her family was in bed,<br \/>She lay awake as awful thoughts went spinning through her head;<br \/>She didn\u2019t know why, and she didn\u2019t know how,<br \/>But she wanted her life to end;<br \/>So she begged Whoever put her here<br \/>To take her back again.<\/p>\n<p>And then she heard, from deep inside,<br \/>A voice that was soft and low;<br \/>It only said a single word<br \/>And the word it said was\u2026 \u201cNO\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>From that moment on, Angela knew<br \/>Exactly what she had to do.<br \/>Her life depended on that word,<br \/>So this is what her loved ones heard:<br \/>NO, I just don\u2019t want to;<br \/>NO, I don\u2019t agree;<br \/>NO, that\u2019s yours to handle;<br \/>NO, that\u2019s wrong for me;<br \/>NO, I wanted something else;<br \/>NO, that hurt a lot!<br \/>NO, I\u2019m tired, NO, I\u2019m busy,<br \/>And NO, I\u2019d rather not!<\/p>\n<p>Well, her family found it shocking,<br \/>Her friends reacted with surprise;<br \/>But Angela was different, you could see it in her eyes;<br \/>For they\u2019ve held no meek submission<br \/>Since that night three years ago<br \/>When Angela the Angel<br \/>Got permission to say NO.<\/p>\n<p>Today Angela\u2019s a person first, then a mother and a wife.<br \/>She knows where she begins and ends,<br \/>She has a separate life.<br \/>She has talents and ambitions.<br \/>She has feelings, needs and goals.<br \/>She has money in the bank and<br \/>An opinion at the polls.<\/p>\n<p>And to her boy and girl she says,<br \/>\u201cIt\u2019s nice when we agree;<br \/>But if you can\u2019t say NO, you\u2019ll never grow<br \/>To be all you\u2019re meant to be.<br \/>Because I know I\u2019m sometimes wrong<br \/>And because I love you so,<br \/>You\u2019ll always be my angels<br \/>Even when you tell me NO.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><cite>Barbara K.
