Counselling Matters

Counselling Standards

Counselling Matters operates strictly in accordance to the BACP ethical framework for good practice in counselling and psychotherapy. All Counselling Matters staff are experienced practitioners, receiving ongoing professional supervision according to BACP recommendations. They are individually members of the BACP and are covered by professional indemnity insurance.

We primarily offer 'person-centred' counselling, which is a non-directive approach, using and developing the client's own internal resources to explore and resolve their issues. Where it is appropriate, other methods of working may be introduced according to individual circumstances.

The counselling we offer is usually open-ended, which means that the number of sessions is not fixed at the outset. Rather the client and counsellor conduct regular reviews of their therapeutic work (normally every 8 weeks). Counselling sessions are normally of fifty minutes duration, with one session per week, though this may be varied according to need.

Counselling is strictly confidential. subject the the constraints of English law and ethical practice. The limits of confidentiality will be clearly outlined to all clients before counselling commences and form part of a written contract between counsellor and client.

While counselling is normally conducted face-to-face and on the premises, arrangements such as home visits or telephone counselling would be considered on request.
